Maryland Employment Lawyer, Rebecca Strandberg
Rebecca N. Strandberg is an AV-rated attorney with expertise in labor and employment law for financial institutions, federal contractors, professional service organizations, credit unions, and retail, construction, technology, biomedical and FDA-approval-type entities. As a business owner and former employee and federal employee, Strandberg can anticipate and relate to the challenges facing her clients. Strandberg has handled over 3,000 cases involving civil litigation, business law disputes, shareholder disputes, and estate litigation. Her cases include appeals and jury trials. She won a $900,000 jury verdict on a disability case and a $293,000 personal injury case involving a back injury. She also handled the trial and appeal of a case setting the legal standards for jury instructions. Strandberg has additional experience in negligent hire in employment cases and the standard of evidence in civil trials.
For over 25 years, Strandberg has served as outside labor counsel for a credit union. Her duties include the review of termination and disciplinary actions before they are taken. The credit union has had no lawsuits and only four administrative claims filed against it since working with Strandberg.
In the complex litigation arena, Strandberg settled a major interpleader case on a finder’s fee worth several hundred thousand dollars to her client. In the business law disputes area, she helped minority shareholders buy out the majority in an emerging computer software company where she represented the company. In employment law, Strandberg has one of the only reported cases regarding joint and survivor annuities.
Strandberg has additional experience with wage and hour, discrimination, severance agreement, employment contract, employee handbook, termination, union, outside labor counsel advising on policies and employment action, motor tort, FMLA leave, ERISA (health and retirement benefits), COBRA, and NLRB issues. In addition, Strandberg was a legislative aide to a U.S. senator working on appropriation and employment issues. She also provides mediation services as both an advocate and as a mediator.
Lectures and Associations
Strandberg is a lecturer in employment law for the District of Columbia Bar, the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA), and Montgomery County. She also lectures on law for non-lawyers for the American Management Association, Professional Seminar Associates, Women Accountants, and various nonprofits and trade associations.
Strandberg served as co-chair of the MSBA Centennial Public Service Subcommittee, “Imagine a Better Tomorrow” (1994-96), which focused on teen violence and conflict resolution. The program won the National Bar Executive Directors Award in 1999. In 1982, she was a Small Business Woman in Business Advocate for Maryland; and from 1984-1985, served as president of the Silver Spring Wheaton Business and Professional Women’s Club. Strandberg also donates her time and resources to various causes, including the Montgomery County Bar Foundation and the Maryland State Bar.
In 2003, Strandberg received the Pro Bono Award from the U.S. District Court of Maryland. She was honored by The Bar Association of Montgomery County, Maryland as Chair of the Year for CLE (1991-92) and Co-Committee Chair of the Year for Legislation (1996-97).
Strandberg is listed in Who’s Who in Emerging Leaders (1987, 1988), Who’s Who in American Law (1979, 1987), The World Who’s Who of Women (1988), Who’s Who of America Women (1995, 1996), Who’s Who in Washington (1983, 1984), and Outstanding Young Women in America (1978, 1982).

She is admitted to practice law in the state and federal courts of Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Strandberg holds a Bachelor of Arts in English/History/Government from Texas Christian University and a Juris Doctorate in Law from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.
